I heard a lot of good things about this story and I was looking for a nice contemporary. So after months, I finally gave in and bought the book.
Even though I have not gone though anything comparable with Mei’s family and cultural troubles the author still manages to write about Mei’s trouble in a way that I can relate, deep down. Not meeting your parent’s expectations for your life is, sadly, something many people can relate. I also heard from several sources that it is a good representation of this situation.
Also, I liked that this is not a gritty contemporary but, despite the serious topic, still manages to be light and enjoyable. So overall, I can recommend this book.
