Aquaman: The Trench is a brilliant story arc. Introducing Arthur Curry as Aquaman, and his wife, Mera, Geoff Johns and co. do an amazing job of bringing the King of Atlantis to the New 52. Using a fantastic combination of stunning art and witty dialogue (with many references to a number of Aquaman jokes), Aquaman is introduced as a man struggling to get by in a world that does not accept, or even want him.
This first volume of Aquaman delves into the story of Arthur's, and indeed Mera's pasts, whilst leaving a number of important questions left to be answered in the coming volumes. A mystery awaits the King of Atlantis as he encounters an unfamiliar foe, and a surprising link to his heritage forces him to ask a long unanswered question.
The story in this book is cleverly written, and the art is beautiful.
