With the New Year comes a slew of books, graphic novels and manga set to be adapted into film - here’s our pick of the top 10 that we recommend reading before they hit theatres throughout 2017...

Live By Night

What’s the book about?

Prohibition in 1920s America gave rise to a number of illegal speakeasies and scandal amongst the cops. For Joe Coughlin, son of a famed Boston police captain, the defiance of his formal upbringing leads to a dangerous descent into the world of organised crime. As he climbs the ladder of corruption, he encounters a multitude of dangerous characters; all vying to live out the American dream in their own unscrupulous way.

T2 Trainspotting

What’s the book about?

Set 10 years after the events Trainspotting, T2 sees a return of the degenerative characters from the original - as Sick Boy, Renton, Spud, Begbie and Nikki paths cross once again. This time however, rather than through their use of heroin, the ensemble are brought together through the pornograhy business which serves as the backdrop to their escapades.

Old Man Logan

What’s the book about?

Supervillains reign supreme and have assumed control of the United States. Conquering the continent and dividing it into territories, this dystopian future is governed by the big bads of the Marvel Universe; Abomination, Magneto, Doctor Doom and the Red Skull. Few superheroes survived the genocide, but for Logan, the man once known as Wolverine, an accumulated debt has led to him reluctantly agreeing to a job for the blinded Hawkeye.

What’s the book about?

Opinionated, middle-aged and a loner; Wilson is a man who lacks companionship. Despite his best efforts, his inability to hold a conversation that is not one-sided has led to a life of misery. After the death of his father and the discovery of a daughter from an ex-marriage, he is forced to re-establish his life and attempt to salvage a marriage within his formative years.

Ghost in the Shell

What’s the book about?

In a cyberpunk themed future, the lines between what makes up man and machine have become increasingly blurred as technology continues to progress. Cybernetic implants have led to mechanically enhanced humans and robots with human tissue; creating a techno-organic world of deception and terror. Volume 1 of the manga features Section 9 investigating the mysterious Puppeteer, a criminal ghost hacker posing a threat to the future of the pseudo-digital society.

The Zookeeper’s Wife

The Mountain Between Us
