Dan Kainen is an artist, designer, and inventor living in New York City. He is the creator of the bestselling Photicular books Safari, Ocean, Polar, Jungle, and Wild. While working with some of the pioneers of holography, Dan created a special spotlight that was used by Soho's Museum of Holography to light holograms. The related field of holography led to Dan's interest in lenticular art and, in turn, after nearly a decade of research and experimentation, to the creation of his "Motion Viewer," his third patent in that field and the inspiration for Safari and the other Photicular books.
Kathy Wollard is a science journalist and the author of the bestselling How Come? Every Kid's Science Questions Explained. Her work has appeared in Newsday, Scholastic, Popular Science, and Family Fun magazines.
Why just read about the way a cheetah can run up to 60mph when you can actually watch him running, too? Featuring eight animals (cheetah, rhino, elephant, giraffe, gazelle, zebra, gorilla, and lion), this title provides the information you'd expect to hear from a real safari tour guide about each animal.
The magical follow-up to Safari, Ocean uses the same lenticular-based technology that transfers fluid full-colour movies onto a book page and offers a glimpse of the world under the sea with eight beautiful photicular images by artist Dan Kainen.
A new Photicular book that celebrates the amazing life at the North and South Poles in images. Carol Kaufmann takes the reader on a voyage to the Poles and writes a lively and informative essay for each image, including the animal's size, range, habitat, and other vital statistics.
JUNGLE features exotic animals in vivid colour and vibrant motion: A tree frog blinks his big red eyes. A tiger stalks his prey. A blue leaf monkey scratches his back. A tarantula scurries across the ground. A butterfly drinks from a tropical flower. A nocturnal tarsier scans for food. A vividly patterned macaw comes in for a landing.
The opening essay focuses on conservation efforts around the world and answers the question: What exactly does it mean to protect or save an endangered animal? It includes stories of interesting and unique conservation efforts, including some inspiring success stories.
