Enjoyable, accessible D&D
I have the three D&D 5e core rulebooks, and this one always gets the most usage. The vast bulk of the book is mechanics relating to playable races, classes, and backgrounds; customisation, combat and spellcasting. The spell texts alone take up almost a third of the page count. Not only are the mechanics in this edition solid, balanced and rich with rewards, but the fluff is kept to a minimum and is finished with at the start of each section. Flicking through and planning a character build is enjoyable, and the art is wonderful. I do recommend printing spell cards for each class (available double sided online) so that you don't have to rummage through the book every 5 minutes when you cast a spell. Buy this and a published adventure and you will be set for quite a long time, providing you can organise a night with enough friends and beverages and a good DM.
