For months I had been seeing this cover all over Twitter and Instagram and every time the cover blew me away. It has such a Taylor Swift-ness to it. I continued to see this book everywhere until I finally looked it up and what do you know, the synopsis is even more Taylor Swift-y and I knew I couldn’t pass it up. I was intrigued.
This book is about Lily Ross, a multiplatinum singer that just had her heartbroken again and decides to take a break from the glitzy life. So she heads out to nice and calm Island somewhere in Maine to get away from everything else and there she meets a guy called Noel. A sweet local that steals her heart and is unlike any guy she’s met.
I did enjoy this book. If you’re looking for a quick summer read, then you’ll like this. The romance was quite quick, well at least it felt like that for me. I think after three brief meetings between Noel and Lily; it was a bit fast for me but I was okay with it.
I would have been nice for it to be gradual but it’s a short book and Noel and Lily were adorable together. She was enjoying her time away and Noel helped her with that so the insta-romance didn’t put me off.
It was a bumpy ride for them, their romance had a few problems and curve-balls thrown at them. Lily did her best to work around these but often blamed herself which was a little harsh in my opinion. There were plenty of other people I would have blamed.
I loved some of the scenes Lily had with Noel and her friends. They were light and wonderful moments where everything was carefree and it’s what I look for in a good summer read.
There was a bit of angst and secrecy in this book. Lily is also indecisive at times and I was a little confused during the end. The ending was okay but it left a lot open and I would have liked a bit more closure about Noel and Lily.
I would definitely go back and read this. It’s my favourite kind of contemporary since I’m so picky with the genre. I cannot wait to buy this in hardback because I need to own that stunning cover.
