This life-changing book is based on the essential premise that Modern Western Medicine, driven by vested interests, is failing to address the root causes of disease processes. Symptom-suppressing medication and poly-pharmacy are resulting in an escalation of disease and a system of so-called 'health care' which is not sustainable. In Sustainable Medicine, Dr Sarah Myhill aims to empower people to heal themselves through addressing the underlying causes of their diseases. She presents a logical progression from symptoms to identifying the underlying mechanisms, to the relevant interventions, tests and tools with which to tackle the root causes of their symptoms.
Sustainable Medicine Paperback edition by Sarah Myhill
Symptoms - our early-warning system * The mechanisms by which symptoms and diseases are produced and how to identify these mechanisms through tests * The tools of the trade to correct and treat mechanisms of disease: The Basic Package - what we should all be doing all the time; The Bolt-on Extras - the therapeutic tools of the trade * Treatment - the choice of tools for particular disease * Case histories
Dr Sarah Myhill qualified in medicine (with Honours) from Middlesex Hospital Medical School in 1981 and has since focused tirelessly on identifying and treating the underlying causes of health problems, especially the 'diseases of civilisation' with which we are beset in the West. She has worked in NHS and private practice and for 17 years was the Hon Secretary of the British Society for Ecological Medicine (renamed from the British Society for Allergy, Environmental and Nutritional Medicine), a medical society interested in looking at causes of disease and treating through diet, vitamins and minerals and through avoiding toxic stress. She helps to run and lectures at the Society's training courses and also lectures regularly on organophosphate poisoning, the problems of silicone, and chronic fatigue syndrome. She has made many appearances on TV and radio. Visit her website at www.drmyhill.co.uk
Dr Myhill's tried-and-tested guide to following a paleo-ketogenic diet - a nutritional approach that combines the benefits of paleo (pre-agricultural wholefoods) with ketogenic (fueling the body with fibre and fats) eating. This is the 'how to do it' book that shows you how to put her approach to sustainable health into practice.
Dr Myhill brings together her years of experience in ecological medicine to provide a person-centred, sustainable alternative to conventional medicine's focus on individual symptoms and unsustainable poly-pharmacy. She empowers her readers to take charge of their own health.
Dr Myhill explains the root causes of the growing epidemic of diabetes and how, with the right approach to diet and lifestyle, type 2 diabetes can be not only prevented, but reversed, and type 1 can be greatly ameliorated. Understanding and working with the body's natural mechanisms for balancing blood sugar is the key.
Dr Myhill's approach to CFS/ME is founded on our growing understanding of how our mitochondria, the powerhouses of every cell in our bodies, can influence our levels of energy and resilience. From this stem diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, and the author's success in helping thousands of patients to overcome this much misunderstood illness.
