The Body Keeps the Score Hardback edition by Bessel Van Der Kolk
What an amazing comprehensive and practicle book on Trauma
I work with clients who experience unresolved trauma issues, as well as PTSD. So much of what i suspected as true, on an anecdotal level about trauma, including the role of childhood attachments or lack of them have in adult trauma ( called Developmental Trauma Disorder), has been confirmed by solid scientific research. Also very illuminating is his criticism of CBT Exposure Therapy, as doing more damage to clients through re- traumatisation of the client. I had an intuition that this was true, and heard anecdotal evidence of this, but again this confirmed what I had thought. I would thoroughly recommend this book to any therapist of whatever therapeutic orientation, to read. Many of your clients will have unresolved trauma issues, and this will alert you to that and help you become a better therapist.
