Gina Kirkham has a natural born talent for making readers laugh out loud at her writing. Deliciously funny, her words just flow from her pen (or tap from her keyboard) and following on from "Handcuffs, Truncheon and a Polyester Thong” -which was a huge success - we are yet again entertained in the 'Further Adventures of Mavis Upton' in "Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot!"
I highly enjoyed this sequel since it's equally as funny and enjoyable as the first hilarious book, you can't help but giggle, laugh and smirk at the things only Mavis can get up to. The Krispy Kreme Doughnut part of the story is a real eye opener and I'm not sure I will look at one in the same way EVER, EVER again!
Whilst keeping the reader happy Gina also covers the serious sides of life - dementia, grief of loosing her devoted mother and her own relationship with her teenage angst daughter etc, she still manages to keep it light and entertaining, hitting home with so many poignant, real life emotions in a light hearted way.
Reading this wonderful book really lifted my mmod, its guaranteed to booster anyone's low spirits or is just perfect when want you some light hearted, real-life entertaining fun that is pure comedy. It's wonderful how Gina has drawn on so many of her own experiences as a police officer to tell Mavis' stories and together with her charismatic writing and at times saucy humour, has produced another first class novel.
There is so many funny little stories it's impossible to pick a favourite but I did enjoy the chapter about the pregnancy test stick, which really made me chuckle.
Set in the present day and recollections of the past the story flowed perfectly and I liked how we had little sections written with the thoughts of the creepy flasher which added to the intrigue of who he possibly could be.
All the characters Mavis works with are pure gems and if I ever worked again these are the people I would want to work with to keep you sane. They are true friends, witty, caring, cracking banter, can laugh at themselves and always see the funny side to things - Petey was an absolute hoot.
I can't shout about and praise Gina Kirkham's fabulous writing enough and I highly recommend you read both of her humorous books, you won't be disappointed!
Everyone needs a Mavis in their life.......just perhaps not a Krispy Kreme Doughnut!
5 stars and then some.
